Types of Ball Valve

2PCS Ball Valve
The 2PCS ball valve consists of two separate pieces that can be easily taken apart for maintenance or repairs. This design offers flexibility and ease of servicing, making it popular in industrial settings where frequent maintenance is required.

3PCS Ball Valve
A 3PCS ball valve consists of a main body and two pipe connectors, one at each port. The connectors are usually threaded, welded, or flanged to the pipe.

Advantages of Ball Valve

Durability

Ball valves are built to last. Even if left unused for extended periods, they maintain their performance, making them a reliable choice for long-term use.

01

Quick On/Off

Ball valves excel in rapid on-off applications, ensuring efficient operation when time is of the essence.

02

Leakage Prevention

With their tight seal when closed, ball valves minimize the risk of leakage, offering peace of mind in critical operations.

03

Compact and Lightweight

In comparison to other valve types, ball valves boast a smaller size and lighter weight, making them not only easier to handle but also more cost-effective in terms of installation and maintenance.

04

Multiport Design

For applications requiring complex flow control, ball valves with multiport designs are available, providing flexibility and efficiency in managing fluid flow.

05

Application of Ball Valve

Oil and Gas Industry

In the oil and gas industry, ball valves are urgent for controlling the progression of raw petroleum, flammable gas, and different liquids in pipelines and handling offices.

Synthetic Handling

Ball valves are used in synthetic handling plants to securely direct the progression of destructive synthetic compounds.

Residential and Commercial Uses

Ball valves are generally used in private pipe frameworks for shut-off and control of water streams.

HVAC Systems

In warming, ventilation, and cooling (air conditioning) frameworks, ball valves are used to control the progression of water and refrigerants.

Ball Valve Manufacturing Process

Material Selection
High-quality materials are chosen based on the application and the fluid being handled. Common materials include stainless steel, brass, bronze, and various alloys.

Casting or Forging
The selected material is either cast or forged into the desired shape of the valve body. Casting is the process of pouring molten metal into molds, while forging involves shaping the metal through controlled compression.

Machining
The valve body undergoes precision machining to create the necessary cavities and passages for the ball, stem, and seats.

Ball Production
The ball is manufactured separately using precision machinery to ensure its perfect spherical shape and dimensional accuracy.

Assembly
The ball, stem, seats, and seals are assembled into the valve body, and the ball is inserted into the cavity.

Testing
Each valve undergoes rigorous testing to ensure proper functionality, leak-tightness, and pressure handling capabilities.

Finishing
The valves are cleaned, deburred, and coated or painted to protect them from corrosion and enhance their appearance.

Typical Installation Requirements for Ball Valves

01/

Proper pipe alignment and supports are critical during installation to prevent undue stress on the valve and ensure a tight seal.

02/

Proper torque and handling during installation are also crucial to prevent damage to the valve’s components.

03/

Orientation and clearance requirements must be taken into account to ensure that the valve is properly positioned for optimal performance.

04/

The valve’s safety considerations are also paramount and must consider. Such as ensure the valve material is compatible with the fluid type, pressure, and temperature of the system.

05/

When connecting flanges or threads, avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to the valve or distortion of its components.

06/

Ensure the ball valve is installed in the correct flow direction, especially for unidirectional valves, as indicated by the flow arrow on the valve body.

FAQ

Q: What do you need to know about ball valves?

A: Ball valves are shut-off valves used to allow or obstruct the flow of fluids by rotating the ball having a bore inside it by 900. They can be operated manually or by an actuator. Ball valves consist of the ball, shaft, and seat which are contained in the valve housing.

Q: Can you leave a ball valve partially open?

A: While a ball valve can operate in a partially open position, it is generally recommended to use it fully open or fully closed for optimal performance and longevity, unless it is a specialized ball valve designed for throttling. For precise flow regulation, other types of valves may be more appropriate.

Q: Is there a wrong way to install a ball valve?

A: You'll be fine no matter how you install it so long as it's not upside-down. I've seen people install them so the handle faces the direction of flow when the valve is open and i've seen people install them so the handle is the most visible when the pipe is covered with insulation.

Q: Can I use a ball valve for main water shut off?

A: A ball valve is almost always used for a main water pipe. They are large metal valves, usually with lever handles, designed to quickly turn off water.

Q: Should ball valve be fully open?

A: Similar to gate valves, ball valves should be all the way open to allow the full flow of water or all the way closed to restrict all water from flowing. The valve is controlled by moving it between 0 and 90 degrees. If the lever is aligned with the pipe, water will flow.

Q: Does the orientation of a ball valve matter?

A: If the ball valve is bidirectional then it may be oriented in either direction, but if it is unidirectional , then the water flow direction in the ball valve arrow must be followed.

Q: Why do ball valves fail?

A: Ball valves are used in industrial processes to control the flow rate of materials. While they can last for many years, ball valves can sometimes fail due to a range of factors. These common causes of ball valve failure include corrosion, extreme temperatures, and improper installation.

Q: Why is my ball valve not closing all the way?

A: Sometimes a ball valve cannot be turned all the way to shut it off completely. If the valve closes only partially, in most cases, it may be needed to replace the valve seat or replace it with a new valve that works more steadily.

Q: Should the ball valve be kept open or closed while soldering?

A: Soldering a ball valve can be done in an open or closed position. But, soldering ball valves in the closed position are better because they're safe, and there is less chance of damaging any internal parts like seats and seals.

Q: How do you maintain a ball valve?

A: Clean your ball valves at least once a year, and more frequently if the plant environment contains lots of dirt or dust. Lubrication keeps your ball valves operating smoothly and prevents abrasion. Lubrication also helps increase the effectiveness of the valve seals, provided it's applied properly.
