In flange casting, liquid metal is filled into the mold while rotating and solidifying. Flange casting has the following characteristics: liquid metal can form a freely selected hollow cylindrical surface in the mold, allowing the casting of hollow items without a core, which greatly simplifies the production and management process of sleeves and pipe fittings. This significantly streamlines the casting process, improves production efficiency, and reduces costs. Due to the action of centrifugal force, the filling condition is improved, and gases and non-metallic inclusions are easily expelled from the liquid metal. Flange castings have a dense structure and good mechanical properties, eliminating or greatly reducing the need for pouring and metal, thereby increasing the utilization rate of metal equipment. The centrifugal force generated on the liquid metal during different rotation modes improves the filling capacity of the metal. Therefore, the flange casting method can be used to produce alloys and thin-walled castings with poor fluidity.

If the flange leakage problem is not resolved promptly, the leak will expand rapidly under the corrosive action of the medium, causing material loss, destroying the production environment, halting production, and resulting in significant economic losses. If the leaked medium is toxic, flammable, or explosive, it could lead to poisoning, fires, or explosions. Corrosion is a continuous challenge in modern industry, as factors like corrosive media, temperature, pressure, and vibration inevitably lead to leaks. Flange leakage can occur due to sealing surface size errors, aging sealing components, or improper installation and fastening.

In some traditional enterprises, the solution to flange leakage is to replace the sealing element and apply sealant, or replace the flange and pipe. However, this method has significant limitations. Some leaks are constrained by the safety of the working and living environment. To eliminate safety hazards and save maintenance costs, we can now use polymer composite plugging solutions. This method is ideal, especially in flammable and explosive environments, where it demonstrates unique advantages. Polymer composite technology offers the benefits of simple construction, safety, and low cost.

The true significance of using flanges lies in their good sealing performance, which effectively ensures the smooth and sealed operation of the entire pipeline. They not only improve the effective sealing of the system but also allow for efficient disassembly. Flanges are specialized products with different pressure ratings. Pipeline pressure varies, and so do the matching equipment, containers, and materials. Nonetheless, flanges are indispensable components in engineering, playing an extraordinary role.
